The Hobbs Family of Kensington London
THOMAS HOBBS was born in 1835 in Kensington London and was a Smith at the time of his marriage to EMMA DAY in 1854.They were married on 10th September 1854 at Trinity Church which is situated in the Parish Of St Marylebone. His place of residence was given as Buckingham Place whereas Emma's was given as the Trinity District
His father was also called THOMAS HOBBS and on the marriage certificate of Thomas and Emma he gives his occupation as Contractor.
In May 2006, I had access to the 1851 Census for the Kensington area of London and located the family at the address 3 Upper Holland Street, Kensington, London (PRO Ref Ho 107 1468 Folio 19 Page 18/98)

Details of THOMAS HOBBS twenty and thirty years later can be found by following the link. His eldest son THOMAS looks as though he is head of the company by 1881 with his father retiring.
The mother SUSAN HOBBS lived to be 66 years of age. She died on 24th January 1879 at 31 Holland Street Kensington London. The cause of death was given as Bronchitis and Pleuritus. The informant is her "daughter" EMMA HOBBS. I believe that this is in fact her daughter in law EMMA HOBBS. She made her entry by a "X" which indicated that Emma never did learn to write. She was present at death and gives her address as 18 Wharf Road Paddington London. The house where SUSAN died still exists just off Kensington High Street.
