A few newspaper cuttings relating to Stan Clayton of Walkley Sheffield who according to The Times was "believed to have been Britain's oldest veteran of the First World War battlefield of the Somme"

"A HUGE party is being thrown at the Walkley Cottage pub in Sheffield this weekend as Stan Clayton , a regular for 74 years, turns 104."

Sadly Stan died at the age of 105 at his home in Walkley on Tuesday,18th April 2000 . The first cutting is from The Sheffield Star dated 21st April 2000

Somme veteran dies aged 105
"Stan Clayton, believed to have been Britain's oldest veteran of the First World War battlefield of the Somme, has died at the age of 105 at his home in Walkley, Sheffield, two weeks after breaking his leg in a fall. At Walkley Cottage pub, where he was a regular for 78 years, the landlord Tony Wallis said: "Stan was a true gent."
On Saturday 31st May 2014 the Sheffield Star published a photo of Stan and his grand-daughter taken on his 103rd birthday.
