The Sudden Death of Walter Nicholls - 1925
"We have sustained a great and a real loss"
I was researching a totally different article for the site when I came across this report in The Sheffield Telegraph dated 2nd November 1925. The circumstances of Walter's death are certainly not unique, but the suddenness of his demise, and the shock it caused, can clearly be felt by reading the article.
Notes
Heaton Mersey, the place where the train pulled up, is a suburb of Stockport, Greater Manchester, in North West England. The area is situated on the north-western border of Stockport, and is adjacent to Didsbury and Burnage which are both in Manchester. The station no longer exsists
