If you walk around Sheffield's City Road you will come to the following grave

Winifred died over seven years earlier than her husband Albert, and was buried on Wednesday 1st March 1939.

A check on the Free BMD site reveals that the couple were married for fifty years

But quite by chance whilst I was researching another article at the local studies archive4 I came across the following newspaper report in The Star dated 28th February 1939. Winifred did in fact die on the day of her Golden Wedding Anniversary - Sunday 26th February 1939. She had married Albert on 28th February 1889 at what was then Sheffield's Parish Church ( now The Cathedral Church of St Peter and St Paul, Sheffield).

Rather a sad and poignant end to a marriage!
