FREDERICK HOWE 1884 - 1916 - Walkley, Sheffield
This article is the result of my endeavors as a Friend of Walkley Cemetery. On a workday in February 1915 I uncovered the grave of the Howe - Bingham family (B166)
It is located to the right of the large bush in the centre of the photograph (taken January 2012)
The memorial on B161 had collapsed and was covered in debris. But once it was cleared it revealed a memorial inscription that is in excellent condition
With this information is was a relatively simple task to trace the family
The 1891 Census
The burial record for the grave is as follows
HOWE Eliza 7 Sep 1907 312 South Rd. 63 Sydney T.G. Smith
HOWE Frederick 3 Jul 1913 312 South Rd. 68 J.M.

BINGHAM Lucy 6 Sep 1951 Nether Edge Hos. (218 Cobden View Rd) 83 W. Searle? (died 2 Sep)
Lucy was the eldest daughter of Frederick and Eliza and married a THOMAS BINGHAM
These details are on the memorial along with an inscription remembering their son FREDERICK who lost his life in the Battle of the Somme in 1916. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has this information on Frederick who died of his wounds on 18th September 1916
