Charles William Wadkinson (1922 - 1942)
I was unsure whether or not to place this article in the Family History section of this site or one of the Sheffield sections. In the end I decided on the latter on the grounds that Charles was not directly related to my family but there was a link. He was the best friend of my Uncle Jack and his parents were known to my maternal grandparents Syd and Lily Hemsworth - they appear on the group photograph of my parents wedding reception in September 1951
George William and Selina Hilda Wadkinson
My late mother pointed the couple out and mentioned that they had lost their son in a flying accident whilst on active service with the RAF in WW2. And that is all the information she could provide. Coming across the photograph again last year I decided to find out what happened to Charles and was fortunate to find out the following
