The Crookes Valley Post Office Robbery - Sheffield March 1931
The Post Office at Crookes Valley was just to the right of the photograph. It served the local community for many years but was closed a few years ago by the Post Office and is now a Barbers Shop, one of many in the Crookes and Walkley area of Sheffield
The first article is from The Scotsman dated 24th March 1931 and gives a brief description of the robbery.
A far more detailed account of the robbery and the immediate aftermath was given in the Sheffield Independent dated 24th March 1931.
As far as I can ascertain, the perpetrator of the attack was never apprehended. The use of ammonia to incapacitate the victims is most unusual and I have not been able to find another attack that features the use of ammonia or any other toxic liquids and substances. The other point t6 note and I was unaware of this was that Sheffield had its very own version of The Flying Squad who were the ones that responded to the incident.
