CHARLES FREDERICK HOBBS 1891 - 1982
Charles Frederick Hobbs died in 15th October 1982 at the age of 91 and was the last surviving "Hobbs brother" He married Caroline "Carrie" Clark (1901 - 1989) on 14th February 1921 at St Annes Church, Limehouse, London. Caroline was born on the 19th March 1901 in Chivers Court, Limehouse, London and was the daughter of Morris and Elizabeth Clark (nee Gruby). Morris Clark who was born in 1865 died at the age of 85 in 1950. He was 21 when he married Elizabeth in 1886. His fathers name was John Clark but I'm afraid that is all I know at the moment
The photograph below shows Caroline on her wedding day - the couple were married at St Anne, Limehouse, Tower Hamlets, Stepney, London on 14th February 1921.

Charles and Caroline had two daughters both of whom where born in the same hospital
Joyce Lilian Hobbs born 28th March 1927 at the East End Maternity Hospital, Stepney, London. Joyce married Ian Gunn (1927 - 2016 ) on 16th June 1948 at St Nicholas Church, South Ockenden, Essex. They have two sons and a daughter. Joyce died in November 2017 a year after her husband Ian who died in May 2016.
- Daphne Winifred Amelia Hobbs was 22 December 1928. Daphne married Gerald Earnshaw (1925 - ) on 27th September 1957

The photograph on the left was taken in 1905 when Charles was 14 years old The one on the right is from a work permit that was required by the US Immigration authorities for persons entering the USA. It was taken in 1920 and so Charles would have been in his late twenties (photo: Chris and Liz Barnett). Prior to that I have found a record for Charles in the 1911 UK Census. He was serving in the Royal Navy as a Stoker Second Class

The photograph taken below is that of Charles's two daughters with their grandmother Elizabeth Margaret Hobbs. Joyce is on the left and her sister Daphne on the right. The photograph was taken circa 1937 at HillTop near Thurgoland Yorkshire.

The following photograph was taken circa 1951 and shows Carrie and Charlie at their house in South Ockenden. In the background you can see an old Anderson shelter.

Charles died in Braintree Essex in December 1982 at the age of 91. Charles and Carrie had been married for over 61 years. Carrrie died in October 1989 in Braintree Essex. Gharles was the last of the "Hobbs Brothers" to die.
In the introduction I mentioned that Caroline was the daughter of Morris (1865 - 1950) and Elizabeth Clark (nee Gruby) The only other fact I knew was that Morris's father was called John Clark. After checking the 1881 Census I found the following information
