The above tree shows the last three generations i.e. my parents, grandparents and great grandparents.

In ten generations (three hundred years) each one of us will have descended from no less than 2046 direct ancestors and from 1024 distinct lines indicating that we all represent an enormous mixture of families and genes. In twenty generations (six hundred years the figures are a staggering 2,097,150 ancestors descending from 1,048,576 distinct lines. Custom and tradition in genealogy is for attention to be paid to your paternal line but in my case I'll investigate each and every possibility.
