The Tragic Death of Reginald Thorpe Barker - 28th March 1939 - Imperial Works Sheffield

Reginald Barker was the younger son of the former Deputy Chief Constable of Sheffield who had died at the age of 70 in March 1937. Reginald had worked at Edgar Allen and Co.Ltd since leaving school, at the age of 14. He had been Departmental Manager of the foundry where the accident occurred for 28 years.

The inquest resumed on 14th April 1939 - this is the report of the inquest. The investigations seem to have been thorough and as the Coroner remarked, he could find no evidence whatsoever of negligence or culpability on behalf of any individual or organisation. The verdict of accidental death was the correct one to return.

Reginald was cremated at Sheffield's City Road Crematorium, just like his father was 2 years earlier

The Imperial Works where the men lost their lives was closed in 1988 and the buildings demolished.
