The Sydney Opera House opened. Designed by architect Jørn Utzon the building took 15 years to complete. The main concert hall has a maximum seating capacity of 2679 and regularly features the Sydney Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra.
